Fall Semester Photography Courses Offered

If you reside in the tri-state (PA, OH, WV) region or Southwestern Pennsylvania, you may be interested in three photography classes I am teaching at Community College of Allegheny County--South Campus (CCAC-South Campus) located in West Mifflin, PA.

This information is being offered to the NEO Shoots community because I had students who traveled extended distances to study with me during the Spring 2008 semester. This fall I have two students enrolled who will also be traveling extended distances weekly: Altoona, PA and New Castle, PA . If you are within a reasonable driving distance of southern Allegheny Co (Pittsburgh is in the relative center), you may not want to miss these rare opportunities.

The classes are:

Mastering Landscape Photography 101 (Sunday afternoon 2:00-5:00pm or Tuesday evening 6:30-9:30pm)
Mastering the Digital Darkroom 201 (Thursday evening 6:30-9:30pm)

Both of these MasterClass courses are part of the Transient Light Photography Landscape Mastery Program which is a unique and exclusive series of courses for amateur photographers of all proficiency levelsbeginner, intermediate, and advancedwho desire to learn how to create beautiful photographs. The program establishes a foundation of conceptual knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary for creating and producing beautiful landscape photographs as fine art prints.

The genre of landscape photography is approached and taught as a contemplative and deliberate process of integrated concepts, aesthetics, techniques, and artistic vision with image creation; development & processing; and printing & presentation as individual cohesive elements of the creative process. The three MasterClass courses of the program: Mastering Landscape Photography, Mastering the Digital Darkroom, and Mastering Digital Fine Art Printing enable the student to study, understand, and practice the diverse aspects of the digital photographic process as standalone courses or as a structured program of study. Thus, the student photographer may:

begin with the foundation course, Mastering Landscape Photography 101, 102 (suitable for all proficiency levels and appropriate for beginning photographers) and progress through the remaining digital darkroom and fine art printing courses as a sequenced path towards mastery of the complete digital photographic process; or,
enroll in a specific course to advance their knowledge and skills (if they meet the prerequisites or are an experienced photographer with demonstrable skills).

Mastering Landscape Photography 101: Learn how to create beautiful landscape and nature photographs with J.W. Moore, a professional fine art landscape photographer. This course is the first sequence in the Transient Light Photography Mastery Program for serious amateur photographers to learn and master the craft of landscape photography by combining classroom instruction with field work, print reviews and three Saturday/Sunday workshops in natural areas. Begin developing your knowledge and skills by learning how to see photographically, adding perspective, finding the best composition, effects of lens focal length and light quality and characteristics. Continue the development of your abilities with Mastering Landscape Photography 102 to learn about digital sensors/films, metering, exposure, aesthetics, personal style, artistic vision and creating a portfolio. Instructional materials are included in the cost of the course. You must have a 35mm SLR (digital or film) or larger format camera and a tripod.

Mastering the Digital Darkroom 201: Learn the mysteries of the digital darkroom to master the development of your digital photographs with J.W.Moore. This course is the next sequence in the Transient Light Photography Mastery Program for mastering the craft of landscape photography. You will work directly with your own RAW image files, as well as sample files, in a hands-on format to learn RAW file conversion in preparation for post-processing with your image editing software. You will also learn about color management and digital asset management as integral aspects of the digital darkroom. Continue your study with Mastering the Digital Darkroom 202 to learn image processing/enhancement techniques for digital MasterFile preparation for printing or electronic display. Camera Raw Presets

Hello all! First a thanks to Bob for a great evening with wonderful images and information shared last Monday. Since we were viewing some of the videos concerning camera raw I would like to share where to get 100 camera raw presets. These presets offer many one click adjustments that can then be fine tuned if you desire. Better yet, they are free!
Go to www.adventuresinphotoshop.com and in the upper left part of the screen click on "How to Wow Presets". From there scroll down to Presets for Camera Raw download link. On the next page scroll again to the bottom of the page and find the download button. (just above this are links to videos on tips to use them) Click on the download button and you are taken to the actual download page. Enter some basic info in step one and again scroll to the bottom of the page for the free Adobe raw presets. Download and execute the file and the presets will appear in your preset tab. COOL!

Fall Workshop: Big BIG Plans!

You probably know I am inviting Jack Graham back to OHIO to join forces with me for a super Fall Workshop. OK, its high time I get in gear and start making some exciting announcements about our plans and how this adventure has evolved. The second of these is Medina. We will explore the building facades, the street layouts, the little mini-vignettes, the landscaping, the people interacting, and uniqueness of the town. The session lasts about 3 hours, about half will be instructional and demonstrative, the other half will be mentoring. The cost is $30. I'm an LPS member.

I am sorry to say that a cat we've had in the family for almost 16 years, now, isn't doing too well, and we'd like to get some nice photos of her before her health declines too much more. I don't feel that I'm able to do an adequate job, and I'm wondering if you could recommend someone I could bring her to to have it done.

An example of the kind of photo I have in mind would be like the cover photo on the DVD "Understanding Cats" by Roger Tabor. I'd like to have the photos on CD or DVD so I can work on them in Photoshop, later on.

Quik-Shade Booth Canopy with Weights

Last year in my Farmer's Market I had pretty good luck with a Quick-Shade "Bravo Marketplace" Canopy I got from Amazon. I also bought a set of corner weights. The color is white. It is in very good shape and includes a rolling storage bag for the whole setup. Size is 10x10.
